This evening Sarah and I went to Rainbow Foods to do some grocery shopping. As a side note, we left Riley on his own, wandering the apartment on his own for the first time (at least for over an hour).
Anyways, we did our shopping and ended up with a $100 grocery bill, which netted us 4 scratch and wins. Within these cards held the potential of winning anywhere from $1 to $1million! Can you imagine?
Excited to unleash our prize, we carefully scratched only 3 blocks. If they matched, we’d win that prize. For each of the cards, we had no matches, so we scratched off all the boxes to see what wonderful potential each card held.
Each of the four cards, had we used our supernatual abilities, would have won us $1. So, after spending a “c-note” on food, they couldn’t even give us $4. We had to, against all odds and statistics, scratch them off on all 4 cards.
To rub additional salt in an open wound the bottom half contains a scratch and save portion which hold values coupons. If we were being optimistic, we’d appreciate having won: 25 cents off McCormick Peppermint Extract, 25 cents off Kellogg’s Corn Flakes (you know: the tasty cereal), 25 cents off I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter and 25 cents off fresh strawberries (which aren’t exactly in season right now).
So, all in all, it was a fun night. As pointless as it is, there’s still something magical about scratching that silver stuff off a card…
