Nine interviews and counting…

Hi Friends! Sarah here. It’s hard to believe we’ve been in Sioux Falls for a whole month already. It’s also hard to believe after all that unpacking that there are still boxes left. Scary, really. Whenever our place gets messy we always joke that we need to have people over to motivate us to clean. Works every time! So now that we have a few stubborn boxes left in every room, we’ve been saying we need to have people come visit so we have a reason to kick those last few boxes to the curb. For recycling, of course.

I’m still on the job hunt, but making good progress. This afternoon will be my ninth interview. NINTH!! I also have interviews scheduled for Monday and Tuesday of next week, which brings us to eleven. My new suit is getting a work out! I don’t know what I’ll do when people have to see me more than once though, since I only have one interview outfit. I sure wish there were more actual job openings attached to these interviews. Most are simply "informational interviews," which in some ways are actually better since I’m new to town and get to learn a lot about local companies, personalities and what it’s like doing business here. There aren’t a lot of jobs open in my field right now, so it’s a good time for me to familiarize myself and network. I think when the right position opens up things with move pretty quickly. Especially now that I’ve been building an army of contacts!

We’ve been church shopping and went to a new one last Sunday night called Embrace that we really really liked. http://embracesiouxfalls.org/ It was the fourth church we’ve tried in Sioux Falls and definitely the best fit. We both gave it a thumb’s up and decided to stay. We signed up for a small group right away and met with our new small group the very next night! It was really cool, and gave us a lot of hope and excitement about forming new friendships here. So that’s the big news from us — we found a church we like and may be making friends. Hooray! I did kind of "bring it" with the whole extraverted and wacky personality thing that night though and hopefully didn’t scare too many people yet…

In other news, we went mattress shopping. What a goofy process. You just go from bed to bed and flop on them wondering if it feels any different than the last. And if it does, if it’s worth the extra money. And if it’s really the mattress or the pillow that you like so much. They had Vera Wang mattresses, which made me smile to think of sleeping on a designer wedding gown. They were of course the most expensive at $4,000! I accidentally found a rustic log-cabin-type bed frame at a garage sale while walking the dog. I was totally unprepared for a shopping and neighbor-meeting experience. No shower, no make up, no bra. Rustic myself, I suppose. But there it was! So we picked that up and bought an awesome pillow top mattress last week at a super discount and they dropped it off yesterday. The new bed frame + new pillow-top mattress combo is so tall I have to do a little hop to get in now.

The point of my story is, I’m thrilled to finally have a new "grown up" queen-size bed since we’ve been using the same full-size bed bed and mattress I’ve had since childhood. AND now the full-size bed has been moved down to the guest bedroom so we have a place for visitors! No more Super 8 Motel, people. The couch in the basement is also a pull-out to accommodate visitors of Xbox party proportions. You’re always invited to motivate us to clean by coming to visit us out here in the wild wild west — and now have a cozy place to stay.

Here are some photos I took today of our new bed and super tall mattress:

In other news, I tried to hang some pictures today. For some reason all (all two in fact) nails I tried to hammer turned out like this. So I decided to take a picture (of course, who wouldn’t?) and leave it for Michael to figure out when he gets home. There’s a reason why I’m in the communication arts and not, well, you know…
