Week 1 in Sioux Falls

I’ve finally found some time to sit down and write a much-needed post.

While we had our Internet hooked up since Monday, I haven’t found much time to sit on the computer. Part of it has to do with a cold that snuck up on me, part of it has to do with the chaos of boxes in the new place and, frankly, most of it has to do with getting back into working an 8-5 full-time job.; :); After doing freelance for almost a year, it was more of a transition than I initially thought.

The Move

Ok. Let’s get you caught up to speed. Last Friday we had an amazing team of people swing by our place and help pack the truck. Sarah and I cannot believe how fortunate we’ve been to have such incredible friends. Thanks to everyone who was able to help us!

Early (too early) on Saturday morning, Sarah and I awoke to finalize the cleaning of the apartment and finish packing the truck. Here we are in our empty apartment. Thank you #315. You provided us with some great memories!

Next stop: Sioux Falls. Here we see the mighty moving truck. At first, driving a 22′ truck was intimidating, but once you’re on the open road the trucks are king! 🙂

Overall, I don’t think the move could have gone smoother. When we arrived in Sioux Falls, we had the generous help of Sarah’s dad, brother Jon and his wife Erin. They made the move in go buttery smooth. Also, my new co-worker Nate and his fiancee Jolene swung by to help.; Like I said: it couldn’t have gone better.

Unpacking

The unpacking; so far has gone well. There’s still a lot to do, but as of now we’re really loving our new place.; It’s amazing how much room we have (and even more once the boxes are gone).

For those who don’t know, we were able to rent a small house in the middle of Sioux Falls. There’s the main floor with the living room, kitchen, 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. Downstairs is a large room, bathroom and washer/dryer. Finally, the stairs to the top floor lead you right into the main bedroom. The quaint size, quite neighbourhood and hardwood floors make this an awesome place to live (even if there are bugs that appear every so often).

While it’s progressed a little since, here are the latest photos of the new house, in Box Mode:

Well. Provided I make it through the day I will have successfully completed my first week at work.

So far it’s been great! As I’ve said before, the hardest part has been getting used to the 8am start time. No longer am I my own boss :);

Already I’ve worked on several projects, which is good because I’d much rather be busy and productive than sitting around. What I’ve produced so far has been approved, so that’s a good sign.; Spending a couple of days with the team last month (during the interview process) has made this first week much easier. I already had a good sense of how the company worked, as well as already met the team.

Next week I’ll be going with a couple people from the team to help with an overnight shoot in Nebraska.; I’ll let you know how that goes once I get back.

All-in-all it’s been a great and smooth start. I hope to get Sarah setup soon so that she can post her experiences here, too.

Until next time!
