Well. I’m back from Valentine, Nebraska from my first vvi film shoot. I’m pretty exhausted, so I’ll try to keep this brief.
Yesterday morning we began the 4 hour drive from Sioux Falls. Here you see a rather unremarkable photo of the Missouri River
We arrived in Valentine, Nebraska around 1:30pm. Valentine is a pretty small town, although it is home to a Subway and a McDonald’s. We stayed at a nice Holiday Inn. Hey! It had new breakfasts and beds. Who could ask for more?
We were present to gather some footage for a video to help promote a new world-class golf course being developed in the area. We spent the remainder of the afternoon wandering though the country-side getting shots of the scenery, construction and a few interviews.
This is my "I’m being a serious videographer" face. Not terribly convincing.
Here we see Nate and Bob actually getting footage unlike me who spent many hours preparing for the previous photo 🙂
Here’s a panorama of the landscape:
We waited around until evening to get some time lapse of the sun setting. Here we can see our lonely camera atop the hill…
After the sun set, we returned to our hotel where it was discovered by others that also staying there were none other than Matt Kenseth and Kyle Petty! Wow! (he types sarcastically) Actually, I really had no idea who they were, but I quickly learned of their Nascar Driver status, which is to Canadians as the NHL is to those in the deep south.
The next morning we ventured out at 6am to capture the return of the sun.
For the remainder of the day we continued to gather footage and collect various interviews, all the while keeping a watchful eye out for rattlesnakes. The rattlesnakes, however, were never seen thanks to the hard work of many people trying to clear the entire golf resort of these deadly creatures.
The last bit of footage we captured was of a waterfall about 6 miles down the road from the resort called Snake Falls.
All-in-all, it was an adventurous first video shoot to go on. While it was exhausting, I’m glad I had the opportunity to go.
Oh! And, finally, on our way home I was able to snap a photo of this unfortunate business name. It’s not pronounced the way you think it would, but no one really cares.. 🙂
